Plum Fritters Coated in Cinnamon Sugar

Sometimes the time comes to say stop. At least for a moment. We were walking in Verona under a crying sky and I said to Tomasz that I want to go back home. He looked at me and answered “let’s go back now”. We had last pasta and a serious conversation with Mia if she would like to go back home. She told us that she want’s to go back to kindergarten to her friends and teachers (she loves them), she also wants to visit grandparents and she wants a princess costume. We all agreed on her conditions and one hour later we were sitting in a car and driving to Berlin. That was on Saturday Afternoon, about 4pm. When we crossed the border with Austria a strange thing started to happen – the snow storm paralysed roads. It was like Italy didn’t want us to leave. We have all year tires, so “bu haha” weather.

What we did not foresee was a snow machine pushing tones of snow on our car from a highway road just above us. Nothing happen at all to the car, the sound was crazy scary, but hey, it happened. When we were crossing the Austria-German border, the nice policeman asked us where are our registration plates. So this is what happened – the wet, heavy snow took over our registration plates. As you can see each country wanted us to stay. But we said “no, we’re going back!”. Also, the police told us that we can drive to Berlin without the front plate and we do listen to authorities. At 4 am on Sunday I ended up with Mia in our bed and Tomasz at the police station registering our unusual problem. Life is a tricky thing.

I had a small blog break. Not a serious one, as I kept coming back and writing a word or two, but it looks like it may be over now. I still want to share all the guides from the road trip with Mia this year, so bare with me. But for now I’ll share a super yummy and easy recipe. Plums in a dough coated in cinnamon sugar. I made them before we left for Italy, when there were hundreds of plums around. If you don’t have plums, you can use any fruit you like. Even grapes. I actually like the idea of grapes and I think I’ll make some.

Recipe

YOU WILL NEED FOR THE DOUGH:

  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • zest from ½ lemon
  • pinch of salt

YOU WILL ALSO NEED:

  • plums
  • sugar
  • cinnamon
  • oil for frying
You should prepare plums first. Cut them along, just so you can open them and take the seed out. In the place of the seed place sugar mixed with cinnamon (I’d mix ½ cup sugar on 1 tsp cinnamon).

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the dough.

In a deep pan, place about 1 cm of the frying oil. Make it hot.

In a deep plate, mix sugar with cinnamon to get your cinnamon sugar. 1 cup of sugar with 1 tbsp cinnamon should do the trick.

Coat plum in the dough and place it slowly in the pan. Fry on each side just so it gets golden. Each fried plum coat in the cinnamon sugar. Place on a plate and enjoy!

Enjoy, Marta
